Google Duo’s update brings screen-sharing feature to the app

Tech-giant Google has rolled out new updates to its video chat mobile app, Google Duo. The latest version of Google Duo allows users to share their Android’s smartphone screen during a video chat, as reported by Android Police.
The updated version sports a new button, placed above the mute and camera toggle buttons, to enable screen-sharing. After tapping on the button, a prompt appears that informs users that Google Duo will start capturing the device’s screen.
The app then takes you to the home screen, allowing one to use the phone normally. One will also be able to see a red-line that circles the screen being recorded. The red-line turns blue when the screen-sharing is paused.

A floating pill-shaped controller appears on the screen to pause or play the video chat. To end the chat, one may tap the X button altogether or pause the video from the floating pill-shaped controller.
However, the users are not happy with the experience that the latest update is offering as of now. All that the receiver of the screen share sees is a freezed image of the sender’s screen. The shared screen de-freezes only after the call ends.
Incidentally, this is not Google Duo’s first feature rolled out this year where users have complained of facing issues. In March 2018, Google account-linking feature was rolled out for Duo. The feature promised users to contact each other by knowing email addresses only. But the feature doesn’t function well till date.
Google rolled out the video chat app in 2016 and is available for both Android and iOS devices.
